Health and nutrition are top of mind and as a responsible food producer, we at Arla recognise our role in helping people eat a healthier diet. Sugar is a hot topic in the food and beverage industry and we are ensuring that it receives the attention it deserves, focusing our attention on natural and no added sugar solutions.

Our Arla Nutrition Criteria are our guiding principles and promise for limiting sugar, salt and fat in Arla branded products to help everyone choose the best dairy foods to eat healthier. Our teams are dedicated to increasing the number of products that comply with the Arla Brand Nutrition Criteria, with the ambition to achieve 95% by 2020.

We are continuously working on innovations that can help us achieve our targets and are keen to work alongside, or in collaboration with other businesses, research agencies and start-ups to achieve our goals of making our products as healthy as possible.

We are seeking solutions in the following 3 areas:

1. Milk Based Beverages
Shape the market for nutritious milk-based beverages made from natural ingredients for people on the go.

2. Spoonable and Drinkable Yogurts
Innovate to build a strong ‘natural goodness’ position for yogurts.

3. Milk Powder
Specifically for our international markets where we want to lead and shape the market with nutritious value-added and cost-competitive products.

We are looking for ingredients and/or technologies to reduce or replace sugar, to deliver into our ‘no added sugar’ or gradual sugar reduction plans. Taste is key; we want to remove sugar but without negatively impacting flavour. All solutions must be natural and non-GMO to fit with the Arla brand promise.

Additional areas of interest include ingredients and technologies that meet the challenges we face with texture and bulk lost as a result of sugar reduction and removal.

Organic sugar reformulation solutions are also within scope for this challenge.

Companies do not necessarily have to have previously tested within a dairy matrix, we have the expertise and capabilities in house at our Innovation Centre to apply knowledge.

The evaluation panel selects the best ideas that move forward.

Pilot - starting 01.07

Receive feedback on your idea and engage with Arla Foods domain expert teams on a pilot project that could go all the way to implementation in our products, packaging, distributionor on our farms.
